Tips for a Brain Injury Recovery

These are a few things I learned for myself and I thought I should share them.

  1. Have patience- There’s no point in trying to speed it along, the brain will heal, when it’s ready.
  2. Believe in yourself- You might as well give up now unless you KNOW you’ll get through this.
  3. Determination- Keep trying, no matter how tired you are, just put a smile on your face and keep pushing through.
  4. Friends- Don’t even bother keeping people around you if they cause you pain, they obviously don’t believe in you enough.
  5. Rubber gloves- wear them when you’re relearning how to peel potatoes. They will stop you peeling your finger.
  6. “Nose over your toes”- don’t use that, its wrong. When you stand up you don’t see everyone stick their butt back. It’s harder to learn the right way to do something if you’ve already learnt the wrong.
  7. Faith- Have faith in everyone who works with you. They know what their talking about.
  8. Sleep- You’ll need to rest more than you used to but that’s OK. It’s actually good for you.
  9. Bathroom- Don’t worry if you only actually go pee 1 out of the 10 times you sit on the loo and think you need to go. You’ll get it eventually, I promise.
  10.  Family- I don’t know what I would have done without mine, I mean, I wouldn’t have had my very own personal cheerleader, my very own personal comedian or my very own big, real, teddy bear. Learn to let go of your pride, that’s your family. All they want to do is help you. Better them then some stranger.”
